Sometimes there’s an almost unbelievable, seemingly impossible hope contained inside injustice.
Fairness is what holds “society” together. And yet fairness is rare, no?
At least, we might ask: “Who’s the fairest of them all?”
As if to say that virtue, like beauty, has different levels. Some people are more prone to play fair than others.
But does this mean that some people are more equal than others? The concept of noblesse oblige says that aristocrats of the soul should treat all people with care and generosity.
So what happens when someone spits on the open hand that offers a chance to play fair?
What happens when the mob shouts down the voice that says, “Yes, there may be differences but we can meet on the same field”?
Now we run into a problem. Someone brought a gun to a knife fight. Someone wants to play dirty.
What I often repeat about energy is that it attaches to forms, seeking expression, until the cycle wanes and a new one begins.
At one register, this Full Moon could unfold with sensuous or passionate energy—though a bit of danger would always lurk at the corners.
Think of a game of cat and mouse in romance, for example.
Deception in those realms is often a given, and it’s not always clear whether such actions fall in the domain of either good or evil.
But at another register of energy, there could be more overt forms of viscousness—a dagger that goes for the throat.
The tables turn. Judas enters the scene. Does the persecuted or afflicted respond in kind?
I believe that’s the karmic question at the heart of this Libra Full Moon.
To me, the answer doesn’t so much lie in the modern definition of meekness, in which one just accepts foul play.
Libra says, “An eye for an eye”—it responds in kind.
But Libra in that sense is a judge, a higher observer, perhaps God. It doesn’t fall to the defendant to right the wrongs. That is reserved for the seat of the judge.
Which I find fascinating here. We are challenged at this Full Moon to surrender or release, to let go of some hold on retaliation, revenge, resentment.
It may sound corny, but: The bad guys always get what’s coming to them. Our job at this Full Moon is to have faith in divine turnabout.
Let’s explore.
The Spiritual Warrior
At this Full Moon, we’re asked to uplift, sublimate, purify through a transcendental impulse.
Most of all, we’re asked to target ourselves in doing this.
The past two lunations have dealt with exactitude, aggression and expectation.
It’s fitting that, before we cross over into eclipse season, we reach the peak of this theme.
We’re about to enter a month about receptivity and magnetism, and we’ve been prepped by taking a surrendered approach to our intention-laden actions.
The Libra Full Moon is where we embody these teachings.
So many times a spiritual journey stalls when a person is too insistent on being seen as…spiritual.
They interrogate the world, peering too closely, looking for instances of change. Their embodiment of their path, as a result, suffers.
Turnabout and spiritual change happens within, even though there may be a painful external trigger to awaken the warrior. Remaining in the external is the temptation. This is called revenge or resentment—a peculiar form of debt resolution that we’ll come back to in mid-May and later this fall.
How can we transcend the need to find proof of fairness in a scene full of dirty tricks?
Our story is the living proof, our pain is proof of forthcoming fairness. Within that realization we accept that balance exists, but maybe not in the form we expect.
Breakthrough change is currently trying to emerge through our experience of being compromised. We are being plunged and then lifted up, baptized through an ego death.
Some loss or suffering will occur, yes. But a great gain will take its place. Largely this gain will occur in the form of inner peace.
Peace that rises up from breakthrough change is surely a tense experience. Events slip and slide. We’re not entirely sure of outcomes now—mostly possibilities.
It takes a lot of trust to believe that the intensity bubbling to the surface now exists to wash away elements of control in our lives.
Let’s look deeper at how scores will be settled by a divine hand.
Mission Control
Whenever there’s a Full Moon, the Sun is always opposite the Moon—a 180 degree aspect, a straight line.
If there’s a planet in 90 degrees to the Sun, mathematically it’s also in 90 degrees to the Full Moon as well.
This pits the planet in a tough position: it must mediate between the two energies.
Libra itself is about mediation. Whenever we have the Libra Full Moon in mid or late April, it arrives to balance the hot-headed “me first” energy of Aries.
But Pluto is the mediating planet here. Pluto isn’t exactly the type of energy to agree with Libra’s rather Venusian idea of mediation.
Pluto is primal—he will pull almost anything to get what he wants. Venus is gentle, smooth, diplomatic.
We know this especially because our winter Final Exam was about Venus retrograding on top of Pluto, producing a clash between violence and tenderness. I think many of us are still recovering from that constricted energy on very sensitive parts of our soul.
It’s possible to even look at this Full Moon as a check-in: now that we’ve “graduated” and finished our test, how are we taking what we’ve learned into the real world?
World events may seem just a little too disorienting. As if our knowledge fails against foul play and dirty tricks. We curse the world. We want restitution.
But again, I reiterate that a karmic law of turnabout will be in play.
There are many things I could point to indicating this, but I will focus on one: already, Pluto is slowing down to turn retrograde.
If you look at headlines when Pluto turns retrograde, some spicy situation is pulled back from the brink. The nukes stay in their silos. The world turns another day.
Should events conspire to put you at a disadvantage due to your own honesty and integrity, pause for a moment.
Ask yourself if you’ve exhausted all your resources. Or see if there’s more to the situation that you can surrender to.
Threats are pulling back, even as you feel the dragon’s flames lick your shield.
But you may not see these escapes, if you too are tempted to go to the dark side—to let your mission be control control control.
If you’re too busy getting revenge, you may indeed be stuck with the feeling of “no exit.”
