“If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.”
We’ve all heard this phrase, or some variation of it. But few know the origin.
George Parker was a native New Yorker who would set up fake offices—complete with forged documents—to sell city landmarks, including the Brooklyn Bridge.
In fact, he sold it multiple times. It became routine for “owners” of the Brooklyn Bridge to receive this unfortunate news from the police, just as they were attempting to set up tool booths and strike it rich on their new investment.
If there were any scenario representative of this Scorpio Eclipse with Venus stamped right on top, this would be it.
Venus does not do well in Scorpio—and the Scorpio New Moon Eclipse is pressing right on her, meaning that her distorted influence will ripple across our fall.
Why does Venus not like Scorpio?
Well, consider the two signs she rules: fertile Taurus and fair Libra. Those are tonic signs. Their energy is pro-gratuity. They want to GIVE.
Venus is a good tipper. Her good reputation precedes her. She’s likeable and likes to be liked.
But Pluto—and his domain of Scorpio—is pro-tax. He wants to TAKE.
Now, of course, if taxes are properly managed, they can GIVE BACK.
Pluto gives something back in return for his taxes, but Venus would rather not play the usury and tax game.
Why? Because we run into the problem of ethics. Pluto often entails kleptocratic management. Kleptocracy is when leaders exploit citizens for personal enrichment.
We see this strongly now with Pluto in Capricorn, ever since 2008. Capricorn is banking, government, courts. How often do we see these systems enriching themselves rather than us, becoming more inhospitable to the human condition?
This is why Pluto is not necessarily “bad”—but the GIVING BACK usually happens after a PURGE of corruption.
Some rectifying action must be taken in order to ensure proper management of resources. Thus, before a world can be born anew, sometimes it has to be destroyed, like in the mythical battle at Ragnarok, in which natural disasters befall the earth as the Old Gods fight.
It’s sacrifice season. We cannot stand for long between two worlds, the old generation and the new. Let’s dive in.
“You’re Going to Be Great—And I’m Going to Be Forgotten.”
There are several gut punch lines in this break up scene from the jazz movie “Whiplash.” This one really sums up the tension of Venus in Scorpio.
I encourage you to watch these tense 90 seconds as the protagonist must decide between his art and his girlfriend. It demonstrates two ideas:
We will have to sacrifice things this season.
But we must be on guard against seeing everything in negative win-lose terms.
So take a look at Venus in this equation, as she sits in Pluto’s turf of Scorpio. She’d rather be hostess with the most, simply embellishing her hospitality with fresh tea and a question about your dear aunt’s health. She’s a diplomat through and through.
When you put her in Scorpio, she becomes a bit like a cornered animal. As generous as she wants to be, she can only do one thing AT THE EXPENSE OF ANOTHER.
This zero-sum mentality runs up against her win-win philosophy. She is deeply influenced by Pluto’s brutal philosophy, however cleansing that may be at the end of the day.
Venus in Scorpio isn’t so hospitable. It makes the other—Venus is about the Other—feel like they must compete with the person in order to receive love.
Or consider the concept of quid pro quo.
Quid Pro Quo says: “I will give you political advantage in exchange for lobbying in favor of my interests.”
As a result, one of the banner memes I’m putting over November is: OnlyScams.
This is, of course, in reference to the pay-for-pics website known as OnlyFans.
It seems like love for something is being demonstrated—the protagonist’s love for his art—but what is really in play is an exchange where someone comes up short.
Thus, the idea now is to sacrifice what ultimately doesn’t serve us—things that scam us.
We must then return to self-worth and avoid treating our loved ones or passion projects as if it’s a war. Tenderness must balance out the ruthless sword we swing at lies and obstacles. That’s where the protagonist above fell short.
Let’s keep going.
OnlyScams
What’s the real commodity being tussled over this month?
Territory.
And that makes sense, given the fact that Taurus is where the Full Moon will fall, on November 8.
Taurus is about land, ownership, stock, the talent we exchange for dollars.
Taurus is where Venus spreads her fertile generosity.
Now, this is what fascinates me: Didn’t we just say that fertility comes after a destructive purge?
We are on the precipice of major change—redlining our way to Ragnarok.
Time is of the essence. We are wrapping up a 15-year Pluto cycle once he enters Aquarius in March 2023.
This purge has got to happen: we are fighting for our lives, quite literally, as we seek to regain the territory of institutions that are intended to serve us.
But I think we’re talking about intangible territories. Beliefs, ideologies, tribal affiliations. And furthermore, these institutions are in shambles. Do we really believe our ideological tribe can run them better? Or do we need to cobble together new, more flexible bodies from institutional ruins?
After all, Pluto and Scorpio is all about cannibalism, Frankenstein’s monster, voodooism. Why raise a zombie from the dead, to plague our children’s future?
In our selfish desires to validate our tribal affiliations now, we could set ourselves up to give birth to the Sons and Daughters of Anarchy.
Many myths and plays portray descendants who take vengeance on parents.
Some of these anarchists are already here. We taunt them, tell them that they don’t eat the right food or read the right books. We give them attention when they destroy art in galleries. Not a wise move, in my opinion. What we should be doing is getting our house in order so as not to continue the cycle of anarchy.
All fixed signs—Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius, Taurus—are about the LEGACY we leave our generations.
So yes, it’s true, Venus is in the underworld now as she sits in Pluto’s domain of Scorpio, just as she was in the underworld while retrograding near Pluto last Christmas.
But check this out: Venus is now moving into her Evening Star status, giving us a comforting night light even as we venture into the underworld of our desires.
Scorpio is all or nothing. With Venus there, we have to ask ourselves: “Are you in—or are you out?”
What I mean is, are you going to head to a truly creative future—or are you going to sit on the sidelines, bandwagoning with the other Twitterati who just ASSUME they’ll be kings when the Old World crumbles?
Of course, calling out the scams in people’s ideologies is just as risky as calling out the scams in Big Pharma or Wall Street. You might be kicked out or feel pressured to self-exile.
Once again, we’re back to a core lesson of Venus in Scorpio: this versus that. Do you want to suffer temporary disappointment now—or really suffer later when you see how your tribalism gave birth to a warlike world instead of a golden utopia where you are naturally king?
I suppose that’s part of the reframe being given to us in November. You can “lose” out on a deal—but what if you don’t have FOMO, because you realize that thing wasn’t really the best for you anyways?
I think that’s the real bright lesson of Venus in Scorpio. Maybe you quit your OnlyFans addiction—only to realize later that your wallet is fuller, and the next human touch you receive will feel more blissful than the glow of the computer screen.
But how long will you have to wait for that gratuity to hit your energetic account? Let’s find out.
Confidence Games
To answer the above question, we have to define what confidence games are:
“A confidence game is when a person defrauds a victim of their money, property, or information through tricks. The perpetrator is able to defraud the victim of their possessions through gaining the victim's trust.”
It’s easy to see how people online gain the trust of others. They just tweet out the “vibes” that will resonate with that person. But often, like a Plutonic archetype, they have no gold in their coffers—all they have is the tax of attention they’ve taken from that person.
You cannot build the City of Tomorrow when working with such a deficit. Sorry to say, a lot of people who fashion themselves as leaders online are really playing confidence games with you.
So it’s time to turn things on their head. It’s time to reclaim the territory of confidence, and return to your natural self worth. That’s the true kingdom, the true utopia you’re looking for.
Let’s talk some more about the fertile domain of Taurus, where the Full Moon will fall.
Since 2018, Ouranos—the planet of disruption and tribes—has been in Taurus, triggering us all to re-understand our self-worth in terms of who we associate with.
And since 2020, Saturn has been in Aquarius—the domain of tribes, again—harshly squaring Ouranos.
This has resulted in a real “weeding out” effect. What I mean is, you cannot ignore the basic reality of the resources of your tribe.
A lot of people are going through the motions, performatively, but I don’t feel real conviction behind the way they gas themselves and their friends up.
Otherwise, the alternative is to be brutally honest about a lot of our affiliations and therefore re-direct our attention towards people who truly want to build things with us.
Ouranos is a about fast, immediate change. Redlining. Despite the long-term horizons we’re discussing here, we’re seeing a lot of radical unexpected changes in real time. Friend groups or supply chains or markets are splintering, defying expectations of a promised utopia. Bronze Age Pervert, once a bulletproof figurehead among outcasts, is now the subject of divisive in-group controversy.
I have a friend who knows a lot about the Ragnarok myth. As we were discussing things of this nature, he commented to me recently:
“Everywhere we have people racing against time. Which is a thing you cannot actually do - a nonsense. If the idea is to make your life congruent with your nature, then we bring all our little plans into it and it becomes more of a nonsense.”
You see, Taurus is about SUPREME NATURALNESS. It is represented by the bull sunning itself in a field. Nothing to do. Just BEING.
Ouranos is there, anxiously waiting for the November 8 Full Moon, driving us at 101 mph towards our future. . .and guess what, there’s almost no time left to decide whether you’re against corruption in your backyard or in your nation at large.
You’re either in or you’re out. It’s not a thing to pick apart. Do you want to be yourself—or do you want to waste your time getting reeled into a confidence game that might promise you a utopian heaven?
Ah yes, Mars Retrograde is happening RIGHT NOW, in the sign of nuance—Gemini. All those little facts that could help us decide are fuzzy. And he’s even square Neptune the Fuzzmaster in the fuzziest of signs—Pisces.
Oh my goodness, sweet summer child, it’s the season of decay and you’re chasing someone who tells you ice cream won’t melt. You’re buying a Brooklyn Bridge.
Folks, it’s time. When Mars finishes this retro saga, it will also be March 2023, when Pluto enters Aquarius. This eclipse hangover will finally have worn off by then.
And where will you be? Will you have stepped into your natural power—or will you still be crouching under the shadow of some confidence game, waiting to be king of dust?
