Soak up this snapshot of film director Stanley Kubrick. This is a man who has most definitely seen some shit.
It’s no surprise Kubrick has Moon in Scorpio, the zodiac sign of all things subterranean.
This image can help us understand today’s Scorpio Quarter Moon, which oddly sheds light on our August story.
How can such a dark energy illuminate the summery cheerfulness of Leo season?
Many of you know from my Twitter posts that August represents a portal to a forgotten future. Much of this month’s Leo energy is ramming up against a once-in-a-generation portal, created by planet Ouranos meeting the North Node in Taurus.
All three of these signs are part of the fixed family in astrology: Leo, Taurus, Scorpio. The other family member is Aquarius (ironically the home field of Ouranos).
The fixed family is about worth and value. Each sign approaches this topic differently, but they’re ultimately after the same goal of expressing uniqueness.
That’s how we understand Scorpio’s role here. It is telling us that we will come to a new state of self-expression through uncovering something from the depths.
Usually it’s a fear, doubt or shadow state of greed. Not very cheerful, but Scorpio can alchemize this stuff into treasure.
Where in your life do you feel jealousy or anger, while breezily trying to enjoy the August pool party?
I want you to check out a couple of topics, to see how a sharp edge can produce value. They’re very Scorpionic topics, but there’s so much Leo color, Taurean beauty and Aquarian excitement in them. They reveal the purpose of Scorpio’s penetrating gaze.
For example, the field of kibbe. It’s a physiognomy test based on the balance of yin and yang in your features. For example, Cindy Crawford is often typed as a “Flamboyant Natural”—broad cheeks and straight lips, no petite stature, no small sharp bones.
While this may seem to go past the layers of polite observation, many in the arts employ kibbe in order to express their style more fully. The same goes for color theory in fashion, where chromology assesses fabric tones based on the “season” of your skin type (winter, spring, summer, fall).
And yes, astrology itself relates to the domain of Aquarius, so it is part of this fixed family where value is the primary focus.
What are your values right now? Do you feel them changing as you alter your personal expression and speak more freely?
If you’d like to explore how value systems can work to propel your life forwards, consider getting a birth chart reading with me. It’s funny how, in our fast-paced society, we don’t give much thought to our core values.
But they truly do allow us to see deeper—and onward, into brighter days.
