This snapshot of Salvador Dali, taken by Phillipe Halsman, captures the essence of the quincunx.
We have a couple of planets engaging in a quincunx this week, so I thought it would be a good time to review this energy.
Since the zodiac is a circle, planets are always in a mathematical relation to each other.
Say they’re in opposite signs. Well, that’s easy: two points are 180 degrees apart.
And even from this math, we can “feel” the energy of an opposition. If I’m sitting in a 180-degree relation to you, we’re having a face to face conversation.
Nice polarity—room for tension, but also room for discussion.
The quincunx is a bit odd, though. It’s not flashy like an opposition, or even a conjunction (two planets fusing together at the same point).
It’s the relation of 150 degrees. Almost an opposition—but not quite.
It’s a bit uncomfortable, off-center, irritating, never quite fixed. . .exactly like the energy in the Dali snapshot above.
Everything is waiting to be organized. The chair must fall into place. The water must hit the ground, splash, then be mopped. Quincunxes put a lot of UNEASE in the background.
This week’s Sun in Leo is naturally opposite anything in Aquarius. . .and Aquarius is always straddled by the signs of Capricorn and Pisces.
So therefore Leo is always in a QUINCUNX to anything in Capricorn or Pisces.
We’ve got Pluto in Capricorn, exposing (and hiding) government corruption. We’ve got Neptune in Pisces turning us into a daydream world.
Playful Sun in Leo is looking at all this mess like, “What the hell am I supposed to do with this? Somebody grab a mop! Man, I just want to play. . .”
You see now how there’s an ITCH in the background. The wider world is circling the drain, and a lot of us just want to focus on our personal lives.
The quincunx says: “Even when you go outside, you’ll be reminded of the collective unease—so use the news as your muse. Lean into the struggle and find the play in it.”
By the way, we’ve got a big Virgo season kicking off in a few days—and Virgo energy really knows how to mop up uncomfortable energy like this.
